Hi Margaret. My Great Grandmother Margaret Jack born 1867, daughter of Simon Jack and Isabella Patience of 9 Shore Street Avoch had a brother Simon Jack born 1877 who married Annie Jack in 1906. When Simon died in 1940 at Henrietta Street Avoch the witness was Simon Jack of 4 Hervey Road Girvan. This leads me to think we are related. I also have the birth , marriage and death records for most of the other brothers and sisters of that Simon who died in 1940 plus records of quite a few generations before. If you think your family and mine are related send me an email and I'm happy to share any records you are interested in.

Hi Ann, I noted some interesting street names that have popped up in my searches. You mentioned 9 shore st. avoch. My relatives were at 11 Shore st. (Alexander Patience) Also 50 Henrietta st is where my grandfather was born in 1903 & lived. I'm visiting Avoch in may 2012 and wish to know if the buildings still exist & thought you may know. Do you know if the old church cemetry is still accessible? thanks, Kathryn Patience, melb Aus

Hi Kathryn. That's amazing you are in Melbourne because my Grandparents had a lot of Patience friends and relatives in Melbourne. I came to Queensland from Melbourne 27 years ago but go back fairly often.I'm pretty sure we will be related through the Patience family. If you have a look on Google Earth you can come in close on the numbers in Henrietta and yes I'm pretty sure you will be able to work out which one is no 50 as the numbers are on some of the doors. The old churchyard is still accessible. There is a booklet put out by the Highland Family History society that shows all the grave numbers and inscriptions. Also on Ross and Cromarty Roots you can see a lot of the actual headstones and print off the photos. I have never been to Avoch as I was born here. It was my Grandparents who came from Avoch but they talked about it all the time when I was a child so I almost feel I have been there.

Margaret I see you there, you really have't changed. I remember your Mam and Dad. Do you remember when my mother went up and spoke to yours about me not going to school because no one would speak to me! Oh happy daze. Elizabeth MacLeay Gault
