New PictureThis is a line drawing of a photo taken from the Braehead about 1900 The sweep of Avoch Bay is constant but note the fishing boats drawn up on the shore so close to the houses. With no protecting sea-wall, you can see how defenceless to flooding were George, Margaret, James and Alexander Streets. The Dock was surely under water for much of the year!
The accompanying 2013 photo shows how little (and much!) the scene has changed.

The drawing is by Mary Wilson who was an art teacher and colleague of mine at Nairn Academy in the 1980s. She is superb at this working from an old photograph.
